Capacity Building

Capacity Building Training for Youth Organizations:

This sought to offer an opportunity for young leaders to demonstrate their unique strategy in running their organizations, empower, share and reflect on the challenges of this generation. Specifically the project aimed to strengthen the National Youth Movement through learning best practices for action and developing relevant skills for use in their organizations in Reconciling & Recreating Kenya.

The training was a build up to a Needs Assessment carried out with representatives from selected community youth organizations who participated in the National Youth Convention and other key youth processes. The training focussed on strategies to continuously seek policy intervention and support on National Issues e.g. New Constitution, National Youth Policy and Youth Council Bill, Youth Employment Economic Empowerment, Civil Society strengthening, Peace, Reconciliation and Reconstruction. The 20 youth representatives who participated in the training were from the following organizations: -

  1. i.            Youth Association for Rural Development (YARD) - Muhoroni
  2. ii.            Christian Partner Development Agency (CPDA) – Representatives from Vihiga
  3. iii.            Bisali Youth Group - Kajiado
  4. iv.            Rehema Kenya Enterprise Devlopment Organization (REKO) - Eldoret
  5. v.            Nakuru Muslim youth Centre - Nakuru
  6. vi.            Genesis Arts Creation - Nakuru
  7. vii.            Power of Hope – Nairobi/Kibera
  8. viii.            Maximizing Facts on HIV/AIDS(MAXFACTA) - Nairobi
  9. ix.            Kuunganisha Self Help Youth Group – Nairobi/Kamukunji
  10. x.            SEED Institute – Nairobi/Kasarani

A Constitution for the Youth
Young people have been at the forefront in steeringthe constitution process- from mass action in the mind 1990's to Bomas, through Kilifi to Naivasha, back to Delta House and finally overwhelmingly campaigning and voting for the new constitution in the referendum.
